Enteroguard is a mixture of freeze-dried garlic and cinnamon. These two plant extracts (essential oils) are known to have a very postive effect on gut health. The two active ingredients have a specific natural anti-microbial agent which can prevent the growth of pathogens in the gut (bacteria, virusses and protozoa). Enteroguard can be used for all animal species like piglets, fattening pigs, broilers, rabbits, veal calves, turkeys, layers and pets.
The process of freezedrying guarantees the stability of the active components. Without protection, the active ingredients would easily dissappear from the product during storage and processing and untreated products loose their activity quite rapidly. Enteroguard is extremely stable due to the freezedrying process.
When a garlic clove is crushed, active antimicrobial agents (thiosulphonates) are formed. The most important is allicin, which is highly effective against pathogens and prevent digestive problems due to for example E.coli, Salmonella, Cryptosporidium, Rotavirus and others.
The active anti-microbial agents in cinnamon oil are the cinnamaldehydes. These compose around 70% of the oil and have a simple phenolic structure. The cinnamaldehydes are known to stimulate intestinal secretions and to improve absorptive capacity. However they also have a broad spectrum activity against many bacteria, yeast and fungi. They show very good activity againgst E. coli, Salmonella enteritidis and Clostridium perfringens.
Enteroguard, which combines the anti-microbial activity of two well known plant extracts is studied in many trial with very positive results on performance.
