Lysine (Lys, K) is one of the essential amino acids. An essential amino acid or indispensable amino acid is an amino acid that cannot be synthesized by humans and animals. Therefore they have to be supplied via the feed. Orffa distributes L-Lysine in two main forms: L-Lysine HCl, a monochlorhydrate salt of L-Lysine, and liquid L-Lysine Base.
Pigs and poultry
L-Lysine is the most important amino acid for monogastric species, as it is the first limiting amino acid for pigs and the second limiting amino acid for poultry. Lysine is therefore an important additive to animal feed because it is a limiting amino acid when optimizing the growth of certain animals such as pigs and chickens for the production of meat. Lysine supplementation allows for the use of lower-cost plant protein (maize, for instance, rather than soy) while maintaining high growth rates, and limiting the pollution from nitrogen excretion.
Lysine is industrially produced by microbial fermentation, from a base mainly of sugar.
Orffa is exclusive distributor for the feed use amino acids, produced by Ajinomoto Eurolysine, one of the world greatest producers of Lysine.
